The like count under a TikTok post is abbreviated, the view count sits somewhere else, and comments and shares are easy to miss on a small screen. Comparing two posts means scrolling back and forth and trusting your memory of what you just saw.
Likes on their own are also misleading when you are judging whether a post worked. A clip with many views and few likes behaved differently from one with the same likes and a fraction of the views, and the app never puts those figures side by side for you.

What the Likes Counter Reads
Video posts and photo slideshows both work, because the counts come from the post record either way. The clipboard button fills the field, and large figures are shortened to K and M so the row stays readable on a phone.
There is no engagement-rate arithmetic, no ratio and no stored history on this page: the four numbers appear as TikTok reports them. A ratio is one calculation away, and it is better done by whoever knows which denominator their report wants.

Where the Four Numbers Come From
The post link goes to the download info route, the same one the downloaders use. It validates the URL, fetches the post and returns the stats object — views, likes, comments and shares — along with the cover image, the caption and the author.
That answer is cached for an hour per link, so a figure can lag TikTok by up to an hour, and the route accepts thirty requests a minute from one address. The share figure comes from TikTok's repost count, which is why a post nobody reposted reads as zero rather than as blank.
Reading Post Stats Without Fooling Yourself
Compare likes only between posts of a similar age, because a week-old clip and a half-year-old one are not the same measurement. Views keep climbing long after likes have settled, so the pair tells you more than either figure alone.
If a link errors, open it in a browser: deleted posts and private accounts cannot be read by any tool. For an account's overall standing rather than one post, the followers counter holds the lifetime like total, and the compare counter lines up two or three accounts.
