The cover image and caption arrive with the numbers, so a note you keep is still recognisable later. And because the result comes from a link, you can read any public post, not only your own.

A creator compares two of their own uploads to see which opening landed. A marketer checks the post a contract was written about, as it stands today. Someone writing about a trend records what the defining clip had reached at the time.

Media buyers sanity-check a screenshot they were sent, and archivists note a post's figures before it disappears, which happens often with content that travels quickly.

The post link goes to the download info route, the same one the downloaders use. It validates the URL, fetches the post and returns the stats object — views, likes, comments and shares — along with the cover image, the caption and the author.

That answer is cached for an hour per link, so a figure can lag TikTok by up to an hour, and the route accepts thirty requests a minute from one address. The share figure comes from TikTok's repost count, which is why a post nobody reposted reads as zero rather than as blank.
