Save TikTok Stories Before They Disappear
Getting the link is the awkward part. A story is not in the profile grid, so the route to its URL differs on a phone and on a desktop.
How a story download works
In the app a story appears as a ring around the profile picture: open it, use the share action and copy the link from there, which gives the address of that individual story rather than of the profile. On a desktop the story opens on its own page and the address bar holds the same thing. What does not work is the profile URL on its own, because it points at the account rather than at one story. Once the link is in hand, the story tool behaves like the main form: it resolves the post and hands over the MP4 without the app's overlay watermark, or, for a photo story, its images as separate files.
A story is a normal post with a short shelf life, so the mechanics match any other download: resolve the link, read the media URL TikTok publishes, hand the file over without the overlay watermark. A video story comes back as an MP4; a photo or slideshow story comes back as separate images. The story tool page is a form built for this case, and it behaves the same way the main form does.
Because the window is short, the order of operations matters more than with an ordinary post. Copy the link first and paste it second: a story that rotates off the profile between those two steps is gone, and there is no cached copy to fall back on. Stories from accounts you do not follow are only reachable while the account is public, since a logged-out request sees exactly what any visitor sees.
What you get
Saved before the window closes
While the story is on the profile it can be fetched like any public post, so a copy exists after it rotates off.
Video or images
Video stories return an MP4 and photo stories return their stills, each as its own file.
No account needed
A single story download comes from the same form as any other post and needs no sign-in.
Nothing archived on our side
Savett fetches the story for your request and keeps no copy, only one anonymous row per download with no IP address.
Save a TikTok story
- 1
Open the story
Stories sit behind the ring on a profile picture. Open the one you want.
- 2
Copy its link
Use the share action on the story to copy its address.
- 3
Paste and download
Submit the link and save the file. A photo story returns its images separately.
Limits worth knowing
Once the 24 hours are over the post is gone from TikTok and there is nothing left to fetch, so a story has to be saved while it is live. Stories on private accounts are invisible to a logged-out request and cannot be retrieved. Savett does not watch profiles for new stories, does not notify you about them and archives nothing on its own.
Vos Questions, Nos Réponses
Can I paste a profile link instead of the story link?
No. The tool resolves one post, so use the link of the individual story taken from its share action or the address bar.
Where is the story tool?
At /tools/story-downloader, a form built for this case that behaves the same way the main download form does.
Can I download a story after it expires?
No. Nothing is archived in advance, so when TikTok removes the story from the profile there is no file left to request.
Will the person know I saved their story?
Savett requests the post the way a logged-out browser does and does not sign in as you, so nothing is attributed to your account.
Can I save a story from a private account?
No. If TikTok does not serve the story to a logged-out visitor, Savett cannot reach it either.
Do photo stories work?
Yes. A photo or slideshow story returns its images as separate files rather than as a video of the sequence.
Do stories download with their music?
The audio that is part of the story file comes with it, because the track is muxed into the same file. A separate audio-only file depends on TikTok publishing a music URL, which stories often do not have.
